The unabridged definition of a clock is “A device for keeping track of the time”. This definition only scratches the surface on what they really do. They are so much more than just a device for keeping track of the time.
IF keeping time was their only function then they would not be so grand or a varied. This so called time keeping device come in many different styles and are capable of doing other functions besides telling time. They make a statement in your home. They have been used to adorn the buildings in major cities for centuries.
These devices do keep track of time but they also make a very proud statement in many major cities. There are numerous clocks that are famous. The most well recognized time keeping device is probably London England’s Big Ben. One of the oldest time keeping devices in the world is located in the city known for its watch makers, Bern, Switzerland. This device that sits at the top of the Zytglogge Tower has been providing the time for over 500 years. This device also provides information about the sun, stars and the moon.
This device is known as an astrological clock and provides the location of the sun, moon and stars in conjunction with the earth. A similar device has been providing this information for 600 years. This device is in Prague Poland, in what is known as the Old Town area. This device also offers a very unique display known as the “Walk of the Apostles”.
Modern house clocks come in many different shapes and sizes. These devices for keeping track of the time provide a decorating accent to your home and are a great way to reflect your good taste and personality.
